Our
Story
The story of the Agunloye Family begins with our beloved patriarch, Pa Brimoh Agunloye, who was born in Akure, now the capital of Ondo State, Nigeria. His roots trace back to Idiaagba, a notable enclave within Akure. In his early years, Pa Brimoh was a traveling trade merchant, journeying across villages and towns to sell valuable goods. During one of these trips, he met his first wife, Mama Abiara, an indigene of Owo Town, also in Ondo State.
Together, they chose to settle in a village near Akure called Upisa, where Pa Brimoh transitioned into farming—a profession in which he would become remarkably successful. He later married two more wives, and between all three, he fathered 12 children: 7 sons and 5 daughters.
The sons were: Omotosho, Olawumi, Adebayo, Olatunde, Aina, Tanimowo, and Iyi.
The daughters were: Ado, Alabutuke, Pelebe, Olukeregbe, and Abigail.
As time passed, each of these children began families of their own, planting the seeds of what would grow into a vast and beautiful legacy.
Because of his extraordinary success as a farmer, Pa Brimoh earned the praise poetry:
“Omo a musu modi, omo a mokuku yugbo ode, mosupa gi ere bo,”
“A man so successful, he built barns of yam tubers; a hunter brave enough to go into the night and return only with the moonlight.”
It’s said that Pa Brimoh owned the land and property across the entire village and served as the paramount chief—Akapisa—until his passing in 1951.
Today, the Agunloye name reaches across the globe, with generations of descendants—grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and beyond—tracing their lineage to the 7 sons and 5 daughters of Pa Brimoh Agunloye. We are proud to be called the Descendants of Agunloye of Akure Oloyemekun—“Omo Igi Meta Oke Eda”—

We look forward to honoring our roots and strengthening our bonds at the 4th Annual Agunloye Family Reunion this July 2026 in Houston, Texas.
